Background

 

Daniel Wotman was born in New Hyde Park, New York and educated at the University of Colorado, where he received the Dean Jacob Van Ek Award for Academic Excellence and Leadership in the University Community, was Vice President of the College of Arts and Science Student Government and Chairman of Phi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society.

 

Mr. Wotman received his law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1981, where he was a representative on behalf of the law school to the National Conference of Law Reviews, the Case Comments Editor of the International Law Review and recipient of the American Jurisprudence Awards for the highest grades in the areas of Constitutional and Torts law.

 

Mr. Wotman clerked for the Honorable Ruth Washington in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Wotman was the youngest member of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Criminal Justice Act Panel for the years 1981 and 1982.

 

After law school, Mr. Wotman practiced law with the national law firms of Finley, Kumble, Whitman & Ransom and Greenberg Traurig, LLP at their New York offices. Greenberg Traurig has over 800 attorneys in 10 cities throughout the world. Mr. Wotman was a senior litigation attorney in charge of a number of significant cases for Greenberg Traurig where he supervised junior associates and paralegals in the New York Litigation Department for over five years.


 

Published Articles

 

Mr. Wotman has focused his writings on the subjects of International Commercial Arbitration and International Litigation. Among Mr. Wotman's major publications are:

  •  International Commercial Arbitration in the 1980's: A Comparison of the Major Arbitral Systems and Rules, published in the American Bar Association's Business Lawyer, 1983, discussed on the front page of The New York Law Journal by Robert Coulson, President of The American Arbitration Association and cited in over 45 law reviews, journals and cases.

  •  "The Procedure of International Commercial Arbitration in New York - The Arbitration Hearing", in International Arbitration in New York, published by the World Arbitration Institute, 1986.

  •  Co-Author, Report On Bill H.R. 3036, Revision Of Diplomatic Privileges And Immunities Act, submitted to The Subcommittee on International Operations of The Committee on Foreign Affairs of The U.S. House of Representatives, by the Committee on International Law of The Bar Association of The City of New York (The Bar Association Record, November 1988).

  •  The Hague Convention on the Taking of Evidence Abroad in Civil or Commercial Matters - A Comparison with Federal Rules Procedures, 7 Brooklyn J. Int'l. Law 365 (1981), cited in various law reviews, commentaries, journal and cases around the world.


 

Bar Admissions

 

Mr. Wotman has been admitted to practice law in New York State since 1982.

 

Mr. Wotman is also admitted to practice law before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Fourth and Tenth Circuits and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, Northern District of Oklahoma and Middle District of North Carolina.

Mr. Wotman is a member of:

Civil Activities

 

For over 25 years, Mr. Wotman has been active in a variety of community and civic activities that are designed to better the communities he is involved in:

  •  Member, Board of Directors' Advisory Committee, The Directors Company - a Not-For-Profit Theatre Company in the theater district in Manhattan dedicated to training   directors to direct plays.

  •  Board Member, Legal, Court and Preventive Services Committee of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services
